The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum is the Sexual Violence Research Initiative’s flagship event and the world’s leading abstract-driven conference on research, evidence, and solutions to prevent and respond to violence against women (VAW), violence against children (VAC), and other forms of gender-based violence (GBV).
In 2026, the SVRI Forum was held in Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at Central World, Bangkok, Thailand from 5-9 October 2026. Over 1,600 participants from 80 countries attended the event. ACCESS 2 supported three female participants (2 representatives from ACCESS 2 and 1 representative from TPO Cambodia) to attend the SVRI Forum.
The themes of the 2026 SVRI Forum were:
- Understanding root causes, risk and protective factors of violence,
- Strengthening prevention strategies,
- Strengthening response services,
- The role of technology in perpetuating and preventing violence,
- Strengthening the science in research methods, scaling, and practice-based knowledge,
- Using research for advocacy and policy change, and
- Building a healthy evidence ecosystem.
ACCESS 2 was honoured to deliver a five-minute presentation on “Advancing Survivor-Centred GBV Services through Multi-Sectoral Coordination Mechanisms in Cambodia”, which was selected as one of 100 presentations from the 2,186 submitted abstracts.
In addition to the technical sessions, participation in cultural activities, networking events, poster presentations, and the Gala Dinner provided valuable opportunities to build professional relationships, exchange experiences with global practitioners and researchers, and foster collaboration across countries and sectors.
Overall, participation in the SVRI Forum 2026 significantly enhanced knowledge and understanding of current evidence, emerging issues, and promising practices in violence prevention and response. The lessons learned will be valuable for strengthening future programming, research, advocacy, and coordination efforts related to GBV, VAC, safeguarding, and survivor-centred services in Cambodia.
