ACCESS 2 Celebrates International Women’s Day 2025: A Collective Call for Action

The ACCESS 2 program proudly marked the 114th Anniversary of International Women’s Day (IWD) under the theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” This year’s event, uniquely coordinated and led by the male staff of ACCESS 2, emphasised that gender equality is not just a women’s issue but a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of men as allies, advocates, and leaders.

Celebrating Women’s Achievements Through Action

The IWD 2025 event served as a powerful platform to recognise women’s contributions, highlight ACCESS 2’s commitment to gender equality, and explore practical ways men can champion women’s empowerment. The agenda featured impactful presentations, an interactive discussion, and a Commitment Wall where participants pledged concrete actions to advance gender equality in their personal and professional lives.

Key discussions and activities included:

  • Empowering Women through ACCESS 2 – A presentation showcasing ACCESS 2’s successes in promoting gender equality, increasing access to quality services for GBV survivors and persons with disabilities, and strengthening policy frameworks in Cambodia.
  • Men as Advocates for Gender Equality – A session providing actionable strategies for men to create more inclusive workplaces, challenge stereotypes, and support women’s advancement.
  • Interactive Quiz on Women’s Achievements – Engaging participants with facts about women’s contributions globally.
  • Open Dialogue and Commitment Activity – An opportunity for both men and women to reflect on how they can contribute to gender equality, fostering a culture of shared responsibility.

During the opening speech, the Deputy Team Leader (DTL) of ACCESS 2 reinforced the program’s unwavering commitment to gender equality, stating:

“Today, as we gather to celebrate the achievements of women, we also acknowledge the barriers that still exist. Gender equality is not just about recognising women’s contributions—it is about ensuring that women have the same opportunities to lead, to be heard, and to thrive. Through ACCESS 2, we are not just talking about change; we are taking action. We must all work together—women and men—to create a future where equality is not a privilege, but a reality.”

Throughout the event, participants expressed their appreciation for the discussions and the role of men as allies in gender equality:

  • “I am proud to be part of a program that truly values women’s empowerment and encourages men to take an active role in supporting gender equality.”Ms Makara, ACCESS 2 participant
  • “Seeing my male colleagues take the lead in this event was inspiring. It shows that gender equality is not just a conversation for women but a shared mission for all.”Ms Pivoine, ACCESS 2 participant
  • “IWD 2025 at ACCESS 2 was an incredible experience. The discussions, the commitment pledges, and the energy in the room made me feel hopeful for real change.”Ms Pisey, ACCESS 2 participant
  • “The event was eye-opening, and while I appreciated the discussions, I also recognised the need for more opportunities for women in leadership. Gender equality isn’t just about inclusion—it’s about creating an environment where women can thrive.”Ms Kanelle, ACCESS 2 participant

Aligning with ACCESS 2’s Investment Outcomes

This initiative directly contributes to ACCESS 2’s Intermediate and End-of-Investment Outcomes, reinforcing:

  • IO1: Improving the quality of services for GBV survivors and persons with disabilities.
  • IO2: Strengthening referral networks and access to coordinated care.
  • IO4: Encouraging increased engagement in policy, budgeting, and planning processes, ensuring women and marginalised groups have a voice in decision-making.

By 2028, ACCESS 2 aims to ensure that select service providers deliver higher-quality GBV and disability services to an increasing number of beneficiaries, while policy and planning processes effectively respond to the priorities of women, GBV survivors, and persons with disabilities. This event reaffirmed our collective commitment to this vision.

A United Call to Action

As we reflect on the importance of International Women’s Day, ACCESS 2 calls on everyone—both men and women—to take action in their respective roles. Gender equality is not just a policy or a programmatic goal; it is a fundamental principle that benefits all of society. When women and girls have equal rights, opportunities, and protection, communities flourish, economies grow, and nations thrive.

In line with Australia’s commitment to gender equality, ACCESS 2 will continue to drive initiatives that create more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable opportunities for all. Together, let us accelerate progress towards a world where every woman and girl can live with dignity, safety, and opportunity.

Let’s stand together—because equality is not just a goal; it’s a shared responsibility.
