Today, we spotlight Ms. Yim Sotheara, a focal person in disability coordination. As a trained pharmacist and the Deputy Director of the Provincial Health Department in Kampong Speu, and Vice Chair of the Provincial Disability Action Council, Ms. Sotheara is at the forefront of transforming health services for persons with disabilities.
In her role, Ms. Sotheara diligently strengthens health services for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. She leads awareness sessions for health workers, aiming to foster inclusive and accessible service delivery. Importantly, she coordinates the implementation of technical standards for physical accessibility, ensuring that health facilities and public buildings open their doors to all.
Her dedication is mirrored in her advocacy for disability inclusion in the health sector, as she actively encourages referral hospitals and health centres to construct accessible ramps and prioritize services to better accommodate persons with disabilities, and prioritize services for persons with disabilities.
Ms. Sotheara’s work not only aligns with Cambodia’s goal of “No one left behind,” but also serves as a beacon of empowerment.
