Australia advances best practices for integrating landmines victims’ assistance into national frameworks in Cambodia

The Chairman of the Australian War Memorial, the Honourable Mr Kim Beazley AC, led the Australian delegation to the Fifth Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention on 25 to 29 November 2024, where he delivered Australia’s National Statement and signed the Siem Reap Angkor Declaration on a Mine-Free World.

Mr Beazley also opened the Australian Embassy side event “Sharing Good Practice in Strengthening Rehabilitation and Disability Inclusion in Cambodia”. Ambassador to Cambodia Derek Yip and other Australian delegates also attended the panel.

The panelists at the side event were from the National Social Protection Council, Exceed Worldwide, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and a landmine survivor from the Australia-Cambodia Cooperation for Equitable Sustainable Services – Phase 2 (ACCESS 2) program.

The panel highlighted Australia’s support for best practices for strengthening rehabilitation services in the Cambodia’s health system and promoting social and economic inclusion for persons with disabilities, including mine and explosive remnants of war survivors.
